David C. Jenkins, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of DJ International Consulting, LLC, has a 17+ year multi-faceted record in global franchising and joint venture start-ups, branded operations, marketing, and management of a worldwide retail network. David is highly effective in identifying opportunities, introducing branded products and implementing operations systems (training, customer service, supply chain, import/export, local sourcing, construction, commercial real estate selection) in nearly 60 foreign markets on six continents. He is well-versed in negotiating, business consulting and personal communication skills, with particular sensitivity to cultural differences.
Signing with Allied-Domecq QSR International Ltd., David entered the Baskin-Robbins/Dunkin' Donuts arena as the Assistant Manager, International Operations from 1989 to 1990. In that capacity he coordinated ice cream and equipment exports and documentation to over 35 countries. As Manager, International Operations from 1990 to 1993, David oversaw initial retail development and support systems in the Bahamas, Mexico, the Philippines, Turkey, Thailand, Indonesia, Chile and Venezuela. He managed 150 stores throughout the Caribbean, Mexico, Southeast Asia and South America. David served as Senior Manager, International Operations from 1993 to 1994, managing operations and development of the store network in Russia, tripling the number of outlets and increasing store sales by 300%. He established initial warehousing, inventory and distribution systems and had P&L responsibility for a $5M annual budget.
As Director, International Retail Operations Development from 1994 to 2000, David served as the corporate operations consultant for new and existing development of Baskin-Robbins and Dunkin' Donuts brands in Russia, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australasia, and the Middle Eastern markets. He increased the number of distribution points by at least 25%, accounting for nearly 35% of total sales in specific Russian, Middle Eastern and Asian markets. He coordinated new product development for the company's international retail system, boosting incremental retail sales as much as 10-20% worldwide. He developed and implemented system-wide store image standards for Baskin-Robbins' 2,000 international retail sites and developed non-traditional opportunities for branded products within Warner Cinemas in the U.K., roadside rest areas in Asia, airports and U.S. military base food courts worldwide.
David joined Gloria Jean's Gourmet Coffees Corp./Diedrich Coffee, Inc., in 2000 as its Director, International Franchise Operations. He crafted a 10-year development strategy with P&L projections to act as the blueprint for growth of the Gloria Jean's international system. David implemented a regular market visitation schedule and enhanced communications and support between international operators and corporate offices.
He served as Vice President, International Operations & Development from 2001 to 2005. David managed the growth of the only profitable division of the company for five consecutive years with a total net profit contribution of $3.2M in 2004, up six times the total net profit in FYE 2000; and total FYE 2004 gross revenues of $3.8M, a 56% jump from the year before. He developed long-term international expansion via a retail store network and other opportunities including wholesale/food service and e-commerce, set and enforced brand operational standards, and created reporting systems and enhanced communications. David led negotiations with new international franchise prospects, resulting in 10 new master franchise agreements, and brought a 750-outlet Chinese JV to final negotiations. He increased the number of outlets from 60 in nine countries to over 330 outlets in 18 countries, with a comparable store sales growth of up to 28% in established markets. David reduced operating costs over 9.6% over two years.
